Video Updates

Below is a list of additional bits of information for this video, including parts where time has shown that additional explanation is required. If updates to Drupal affect how the video will be interpreted, there will also be updates here.

New modules added to the Date package

Added on January 30, 2013

Date package now has more modules (10 as of January 2013); the ones we need are still the same four: Date, Date API, Date Popup and Date Views.

Fields now listed as 'Content'

Added on January 28, 2013

Instead of "Fields: Dates (field_dates) - value" you'll see "Content: Dates (field_dates)" in later versions of Views.

Searching for a field returns more results

Added on January 28, 2013

Searching for "tour" in available fields now returns not only 'Tour type' which has "tour" in its name but all fields that have something to do with 'tour'.

This makes the task described in this video potentially easier.

'Replacement patterns' initially hidden

Added on January 28, 2013

In the video, you see 'Replacement patterns' under 'Rewrite results' from the very start; in the latest versions of Views, this information is initially hidden and does appear only when a relevant checkbox is checked. Also, it appears as a collapsed fieldset that needs to be expanded.

Pager options may already be set

Added on January 28, 2013

With the latest versions of Views, there is an opportunity to set pager options earlier in the process, so these might already be OK - especially if you have read updates to the previous video.

Options for a new view now include 'Use a pager'

Added on January 28, 2013

There is now another checkbox 'Use a pager' which is checked by default. As we want to have all the tours on one page, we might want to uncheck this.

Also, instead of specifying 9999 items, we can clear the field altogether, which would lead to the view displaying all items.

Machine name is now generated automatically

Added on February 12, 2013

You no longer need to type in a machine name for the field - it's now generated automatically from the label. You still can edit it if you wish (usually you won't need to, unless the auto-generated name is already in use, in which case you'd need to change it to make it unique).

If you get a 403 error, try this

Added on November 20, 2012

If you go to the index of the directory and get a 403 error, you may need to add a .htaccess file to the directory. We talk about .htaccess later in the series, but for now, here's what you'd do:

  1. Create a file called .htaccess in the folder where we also have the drupal folder. Note that you should make sure that your operating system is not automatically adding an extension to this. To determine if this is happening, here's an article indicating how to turn on the display of file extensions in Windows, and here's an article about doing the same thing on a Mac.
  2. In the .htaccess file, add a line with Options +Indexes - and that should be it. Save it, and then reload the folder in your browser

Unexpected switch to master branch

Added on November 12, 2012

In this video, at around minute 2, we are all of the sudden on the master branch after having created a new 'page-feature' branch. What happened is that we accidentally cut out the part of the video where we switched to the master branch. If you just do a 'git checkout master' at that point, you should be able to follow along without a problem.

Export funtionality is now in "Save test as..."

Added on March 14, 2012

In later versions of Selenium IDE, you may need to use the "Save test as..." menu item to save the test, instead of exporting the test case.

Contact tab may be visible

Added on March 12, 2012

In later versions of the Webform module, the Contact tab may be visible to anonymous users even though we mention that it's not.

Contact tab may be visible

Added on March 12, 2012

In this video, we suggest that you try making the contact tab visible to anonymous users. However, in some versions of Drupal this may be visible already. If it is, the page is still not accessible, so the challenge would be to make it visible to anonymous users.

There are now some additional settings for Bitnami

Added on March 09, 2012

In the updated version of the Bitnami installer, there are some additional questions near the end regarding your Drupal site name and email address. Just fill these out with something reasonable, you can always change these later.

On OSX Lion, installing Git may be a little different

Added on March 08, 2012

On Lion, you may have to go through a slightly different procedure to install Git. Here's what one of our viewers did: "To get Git I had to download and install X Code 4.1.1 from the Mac App store (free) and then I installed Homebrew in the terminal window. Then did command: brew install git."

Other free IDEs that support the xDebug debugger

Added on March 08, 2012

In these videos we use Komodo IDE, which comes with xDebug integration but also a hefty price tag. Since then we've had a number of suggestions for other, free IDEs that have xDebug support, including NetBeans and Aptana Studio, both of which we've tried and like.
