If a user's original registration email got sucked into junk mail, or is otherwise sidetracked, the user can request a new password by going to the user password request form. If the email address was misspelled, you will need to add a new account with the correct address.

  1. The email address of the user who will be managing the membership.
  2. The date you want your membership to start.

Not at the moment. Some users will pre-load multiple videos by opening them up in separate tabs and keeping them open while they are offline. We hope to offer a better solution for offline viewing in the future.

There are a few things that can cause the videos on our site to not load properly in your browser. When video playback has suddenly stopped, this is usually a caching issue that can be resolved by clearing your browser cache and reloading the site. Outside of that, the most frequent causes are:

  1. If your sound isn't working, it is possible that you pressed the 'mute' keyboard shortcut, which is the 'm' key. Simply press it again to turn the sound back on.
  2. Try a different browser, like Chrome, Firefox or Safari 6x+ (on Mac) to see if it works there. Chrome and Firefox work best on desktop and Android / iOS devices. UC BrowserHD works best on Windows RT.
  3. Clear your browser's cache and restarting the browser. If a video partially downloads and there is a network interruption, the browser will think that it has completely downloaded, and a cache clearing can fix this.
  4. If you have the DivX plugin installed, try disabling it.
  5. There could be a firewall set up to prevent videos from loading on your particular network. If you're using a network you don't normally use, this could be the problem. If so, check with your system administrator to see if they are blocking video files.
  6. You may have audio or video codecs that need to be updated. These codecs (codecs are encoders / decoders for different media types) can be updated by using Perian or Mac or K-Lite for Windows.
  7. Older versions of Internet Explorer may have problems, please try Chrome instead.

  3. Did you try the steps above to see if that resolved your problem?
  4. Do just some videos not work, or do none of them work?
  5. If you can record a quick screencast (you can use screencast.com) of the problem or take some screenshots, that could help us track down the issue.

Yes, every online video features closed captioning that can be toggled on or off. Additionally, each online video also contains a clickable transcript, which makes it easy to scan ahead and review our tutorials.

Because different file types open up in different applications by default, we added a .step extension to each step in the example files so that you can map it to a particular application to open it every time. It also serves to mark it as a step along the way to complete code in case it accidentally gets moved to a different folder. You can know at a glance that it came from your BuildAModule example files.

If something looks strange or unusual on BuildAModule, it's most likely because we've made an update to the site and your browser has cached some old files. So a good first step is to clear your browser caches and see if that does the trick. If it doesn't, please send us an e-mail and we'll figure out what's going on. And in the meantime, please accept our apologies for the ugly.

When you cancel your membership, your access won't end until the end of the period you paid for. For example, if you purchased a monthly subscription on July 8 and canceled on July 21, you would still have access until August 8. You can also un-cancel your account any time before it expires.

Each membership seat covers one viewer. If you need to give access to multiple users at one time, you can purchase additional seats via your account page. You can then assign these credits other accounts in order to give them access as well. You can also assign a 1-seat membership to another person, but only one person may use it at any given time.

  • Go to your account page.
  • Click the Payment method tab.
  • Click the Change payment method button
  • Fill in the new details and submit.

Sure, on the home page just right-click the link that you would click to play the video and select "Copy URL".

There may be two issues with unzipping one of our downloads on Windows. One is a character limit for paths. The way to get around this is to unzip the files into a folder near your root directory. For example, unzipping into C:/Videos should work just fine. The second is that a couple of the video titles have question marks in them (which Windows doesn't like so much). Using the 7-Zip application will correct these file names as they are extracted. WinZip has also worked for some people.

If you're having troubles with one of the example modules, it's a good sign! It means that you're about to learn something new. Here's a quick list of things to try to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Have you cleared your caches? Clearing the cache will update the theme and menu registries, and reset your CSS and JavaScript files if you have them set to be compressed. Go to /config/development/performance and click the Clear Caches button.
  2. Do you have clean URLs enabled? If not, you will need to modify the URLs in the video so that a url like http://example.com/twominutes is http://example.com/index.php?q=twominutes.
  3. It's possible that there is actually a bug in the code. Take a look through the code and make sure the error isn't on your end. Then, send me an e-mail mentioning the issue.
  4. You can take a look through the forums to see if anyone else has had your question.

Each user keeps their own account, but you can assign them access using the central membership. You can also re-assign credits at any time, purchase additional seats, or drop credits to scale with your organization.

All you need to do to use a group membership is purchase a membership for more than 1 user, or add seats to your membership later. As soon as you have more than one seat, your membership is automatically upgraded to a group membership.

You can assign a membership access to any user by doing the following:

  1. Make sure you're logged in under the account that manages the membership
  2. Go to your account page
  3. Click on the Membershps tab
  4. Click the Assign users button
  5. Enter the email address of the user you want to add
  6. Click the Save button
