Hi,

I've been learning Drupal 7 on a live site. I've had many meltdowns and think I can backup and restore my site. is it ok to move contributed modules that have already been installed out of the Modules folder, and into the new contrib folder? Also if so, should I disable these modules first?

Any help is much appreciated

Can move modules into contrib

Yes you can move modules with ftp into a new contrib folder. You can leave them enabled; you just have to clear the caches afterwards.
