Taken directly from the link the following summarizes my problem perfectly:

It is not possible to use operators on arguments, for example to show all nodes created after the timestamp value you provide in an argument...
...There is just "equals" or "not equals". (Unless you more or less code your own argument handlers, which would end up a special case that few others can make use of.)

So my question is... is there a built in solution for this limitation? The sandbox module above doesn't seem to have been updated for some time. I'm trying to configure contextual filters to return values within a certain date range. Using D7 current.
