Git, not able to commit anything
I'm hoping someone can help me with this.
I have Git on windows 7 machine. I have not been able to create a .git folder in my directory. When I try to "git add ." nothing happens. I check with git status and it says "nothing to commit". All the files are showing up in the directory when I do a "ls" but I'm not able to save anything to the repository and not able to commit anything. Please help, I can't move forward until I figure this out.
thanks,
James
Thanks for the response. I did do a git init first. To my knowledge, I followed the instructions from the videos, exactly. If you don't mind helping me sometime today that would be great. Please email me when you get a chance.
Thanks,
James
Okay good to know.
Sure, I have until 5pm Eastern until I have to depart for a meeting. Have you used Google Hangouts before? Can you send me your email address via the contact form you used earlier and I will invite you to a hangout. Then I can see your screen and we can work it out much more quickly.
Cheers,
Elijah
Thanks for the help, Elijah. I figured out my problem. In windows 7, I just needed to go in and make my hidden files visible. One more issue if you don't mind. In the GIT tutorial it shows how to make production site on local machine, how would I do that for a live production site on a shared server??
Thanks, again,
James
Did you do a "git init" first? What happens when you do a "git status"?
Also, if you want, later today I can do a Google Hangout with you and troubleshoot your issue in real time.
