There is so much information on this site, which is great, but I am finding it hard getting my head around how to apply it all to a complete site.

For example, here is a site developed in Drupal but I would not know where to start to layout from home page.

Can someone please advise what videos relate to the customization so you can layout pages in this style? I know Drupal is more than a blog engine and would love to see some practical videos how to develop sites with different styles.

Hi Jonathan! I understand how

Hi Jonathan!

I understand how you feel, there's a lot of information to wrap your mind around. A lot of the videos on this site so far are meant to give you a feel for what's possible, and introduce you to various techniques and APIs for extending Drupal and modifying themes. It sounds like what you want to do is do some theming work, and so the videos in the "Drupal Theming Essentials" would probably be the best place to start. There will be more on the way that will tackle questions like "how do I change the layout of the home page?". Right now the videos are focused on wrapping your mind around theming and troubleshooting theme changes. Once the series is complete, thought, you should have a lot of tools when it comes to adjusting various parts of the theme.

I hope that helps point you in the right direction, let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi Jonathan

Maybe you should take a look at the popular Views module available on
This can help you alot when settings up your Drupal site, without sving to code your views your self.

Also take a look at the Zen theme ( also available at, this shows a very simple HTML mockup of a Drupal theme which is easy to continues from.

And finally, Chris' videos here at is really great toturials. And the assignments in the end of each chapter is great to try it out with.

I also get stucked

And sometimes need some days out of this, but i really push myself, i know i can learn it, and this site is a great resource, but sometimes some things makes an error on the drupal site, for example i got some error´s on the database api´s, but i just go to other sections, so i don´t get stuck and time is running by, and then when i have fresh eyes, i can return to the other stuff.

One simple way to get the page/node to look the way you want.

Hi Jonathan,

I like is to use the panels module ( my self, but it is a good idea to learn/understand the concepts of "Drupal Theming Essentials" videos for a more formal way to get the look you want.

Hope this is helpful.
