In this video you are using the term "object" a lot, which is a bit confusing since your page_object_load example returns an array not an object.

I presume by 'object' you meant essentially a "data object" in the general sense. I know in Java an array is an object, but not in PHP.

You are right, the example

You are right, the example does return an array, not an object. This technique can be used to return any type of data that you want from your PLACEHOLDER_load() function. However most of Drupal's implementations of the placeholder return an object such as %node - node_load(), %taxonomy_term - taxonomy_term_load(), etc.
