bitnami on Windows

I've just started following the tutorials and downloaded Drupal 7 from Bitnami as a desktop installation on my Windows PC.

After the installation, I set my username and password, but when I view the home page, I don't see the administration menu bar across the top and cannot seem to login. Furthermore, if I try and reset my password, it doesn't send an email to my gmail account (which was setup during installation).

I've tired removing the installation and reinstalling but still get the same result. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong please?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Gary, I believe the login

Hi Gary,

I believe the login should be 'admin' for the username, and whatever password you provided. The reason you're not getting the email is likely because either Bitnami doesn't come with a mail server, or it's not configured properly (it doesn't work on my machine).

Once you're able to log in, you'll see the admin menu across the top.

Let me know if this helps point you in the right direction.

Hi I think its possible that

I think its possible that the admin toolbar has been left out of the current version of drupal 7 from BitnNami. I'm using BitNami Drupal 7 on Windows 7. I am fully logged in and using the site along with the videos, but there is no admin toolbar. I went to the Permissions page and saw that the administrator toolbar permission is not even available on that page (I am working on another drupal site so I know where it should be).

An even weirder thing is that no content types were defined. I had to create the basic page content type myself, and I was only able to do this because I'm working on a drupal site already and could copy the settings for basic page from there. If I had been truly new to drupal, I think I would have given up at that point. I have posted about this problem on the BitNami site also. Its usable, but annoying, and would be even worse for people who are just starting with drupal.

Hi Nina,

I've heard of other users with this problem recently as well. For now, I'm suggesting that people use Acquia Dev Desktop and importing a default Drupal site, or Pantheon instead of Bitnami for the "Build Your First Drupal 7 Web Site" collection since Bitnami has had some issues.

Here are the videos to help you set up either of those services:

I'm sorry for the issues, but hopefully this helps point you in the right direction.

Thanks Chris. I'll take a look at those alternatives, since I have had multiple issues with the current Bitnami.

I did finally notice that the administrator toolbar was not enabled on the modules page. In my experience it usually is already enabled when you install Drupal, so I didn't think to check. This might be the answer for some others who have had this problem too. I also noticed that Bitnami drupal stack includes another admin toolbar module that is not part of drupal core. Neither toolbar module is enabled when you install. You need to choose one or the other. If you enable them both you get two toolbars.
